What have Random Fling been up to in 2007 and whats the plan for 2008?

Random Fling started of the year well by taking loads of keen beginners along to the first ever NOTTHAT tournament. Unfortuanately we couldn't turn this into attendance at beginners tournaments but we still managed to get a lot of freshers involved in our indoor regionals squads. Indoor regionals was the first time fling 1 had played that year and was a sign of things to come. With a few new faces in the team including german Dan (Danaconda), we thought we could fair well. Unfortunately we came second in our pools to a very strong Warwick Bears team and limped to 5th place after that.

The dissapointment of not getting to div 1 indoors aside we travelled to birmingham pretty much iron man to play div 2 condensed into 1 day. 9 games, 1 day, no subs, hard work! i think we came around 11th which wasn't a bad effort.

After Flyght Club and our own training over the winter and attending winter league, we were ready for outdoor regionals. Having lost a lot of experience the year before we knew it would be hard. Once agin we had a very strong Warwick Bears team in our pool and ended up 5th with one game left. That would have been fine but the final game was a 5v8 crossover. Seeing as we had just played 2 epic games before hand that had run over time we were shattered. We (or TNT Tim)argued our way to 7th as we had beaten Leicester's Jesters earlier in the day.

On the mixed front we once again went to mixed indoor nationals in Hull. Somehow managed to loose our top 8 crossover against brunel from 5-1 up and ended up 11th but as always at mixed it was good fun.

The womens team achieved their best result ever at womens indoors nationals. They brushed all aside except Bears at regionals to get there and finished 10th overall in the country, a very good result.

Fling hit the beach as well this year for the uber social down to Beachfest. We all trucked off down to Poole on the friday and lapped up the sun before finishing 4th from last thanks to a sudden death epic against flyght in the funal game, obviously fling won ;) After this we nipped off to north devon for a spot of surfing and our end of year awards meal (thanks to mule for the venues).

Also as part of our recruitment drive we held a beginners tournament on campus. We attracted over 20 teams with some having to be told to split up to join other due to shear weight of numbers. This was a highly sucessful afternoon and has led to more players turning up this year wanting to learn more.

All in all this year was a fun year even if the open results didn't go our way. We recruited a good group of freshers to help the club continue to grow and hopefully this year we can build on this and expand the club whilst increasing the profile of the sport on campus.
