Flyght Club once again took two teams to Tour, this time down in the delightful fields of Cardiff. The main thing to take from the weekend is that both teams scored fantastic spirit scores of 77%, towards the top of their respective tours. Fantastic!

Flyght Club 1 had a really tough time and despite winning some key games, finished 12th in the B-Tour. We'll get some more details up here soon.

Flyght 2 won 2 games and lost 4 this weekend (mirroring results from Tour 1). Thanks to Phil for the following insight into FC2's ups and downs.

The team was
Phil, Drew, Harp, Ricky, Dene (Sat), Beth, Jo, with Adam, Adam, Steve and Jack from Mwnci.

Pool 1 (8v16)
FC2 v Staffordshire Oat Cakes. 13 - 3
For a team which were still introducing ourselves we played well to beat SOC easily. SOC did start very slow and then could not get back into the game. We played man D, and a chilly 2-5 O and felt pleased, with ourselves.

Pool 2 (8v2)
FC2 v Devon2. 10 - 13
This was a big game for us, and looking back the whole weekend would have been very different if we'd taken it. Devon2 were relegated from B tour, and this should be our hardest game of the day. After going 1 down, we took 3 on the trot to go 3-1 up. Devon2 who earlier had a hard game (and won against Steal2) then stepped up a gear and took the half 4-7. We pulled it back to 8-8, then 10-11, with both teams scoring back to back points, but in the end Devon2 had a bit more composure and will than us and ended up with the win. We were encouraged by our play, the team was already starting to gel and find our roles.

Pool 3 (8v9)
FC2 v Steal2. 4 - 13
Steal had had a hard close game against Oakcakes and were focused right from the start. We just didn't stop the break, even though we knew their plan from the start. Lots of turnovers from both teams was an indication that the game was actually a lot closer than the score line indicates, however, they won it on O.

So after the 1st day although we had dropped a seed and now were in the bottom half of C tour we were encouraged by having played good Ultimate throughout the day, just not enough in each game!

Sunday morning, no Dene to cheer us up, mop up the swill and throw those hammers. Beth and Adam were also carrying injures. FC2 v Discuits2. 9v16 A sunday morning we were not ready for. Discuits had lost 2 in sudden death and another in the cap (I think) to end bottom of their pool and the tour! We bore the brunt of this losing 1 - 13.

FC2 v Lemings. 16v13
Lemings had a few more subs and used their experienced players well, taking the half 3 - 7. We got our shit together and stuck with the 3-4 offense which worked well, pulling it back to 6 - 8. They were worried but we ran out of steam losing 6-13. Beth was now out as well.

So, down to 9 players, playing for last. I've been last before with FC2 (Mansfield last year) and really didn't want the honour again!

FC2 v Kent2. 16v 15
We carried over from the Lemmings game and stuck to 3-4 offense and worked hard on D. Good pressure on the thrower and a real desire to win meant that after the first few points it was going to take a choke for us to lose this one. We held it together and didn't get complacent, to win 13 - 6.

We didn't choose a MVP deliberately as there were lots of good performances throughout the team. We all had rash moments, but on the whole everyone played well. With a bit more experience, and maybe an extra pair of legs of two, a couple of the closer games could have gone our way. This weekend I have been impressed by the level of play right down to the bottom of C tour, I personally am going to have to train harder!
